Sabina flown to Singapore

Ailing singer Sabina Yasmin was flown to Singapore last night for better treatment.

Released from hospital at around 8:30pm, Sabina flew by a Singapore Airlines flight at 11:50pm. She will undergo treatment at National Cancer Centre there, relatives said.

Cancer and Medicine Specialist Lt Col (retd) Mofazzel Hossain, under whom Sabina was being treated at Labaid Specialised Hospital in the capital, said that the singer was able to walk yesterday after a month.

"Her overall condition is far better now. She has no breathing problems or fever. Her liver function has also improved," he told The Daily Star. Adviser for Health and Family Welfare Ministry Maj Gen (retd) Dr ASM Matiur Rahman yesterday visited Sabina at the hospital at around 1:00pm.

He enquired about her health and wished her speedy recovery.

While talking to the newsmen, the adviser said that Sabina Yasmin is a national asset and he would talk to Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed about whether the government can bear the total expenses of her treatment.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury also visited Sabina yesterday morning.

Sabina, who is diagnosed recently with Non hodgkin's Lymphoma, a type of tissue cancer, was admitted to Labaid Specialised Hospital on June 12.

Fowzia Yasmin, Sabina's sister, said that she found the singer cheerful while talking to her yesterday noon over phone. They have received Tk 4 lakh as the government assistance in the morning, she added.

She also said that Sabina's husband Kabir Sumon, who lives in Kolkata, is in touch with her through phone. He was supposed to fly in tomorrow, but as he was informed that Sabina is leaving for Singapore, Sumon would directly join her there, Fowzia added.
