Thanks in advance.
dear gautam, this is kabir suman trying to answer your question to some extent. in 1995 (if i am not too mistaken) i recorded my first children's songs and i took the help of grownups too. around 1997, on the AIR shishumohol, a young girl took me aside and told me, 'why do you write songs for grownups? you think they care for you and understand you? write for us, the children. we love your songs.' - i went home and started to write songs for young people, planning to make an album with only young singers. all my life i have seen that the moment 'well-known' musicians do something with and for children, they obstinately select only their own progeny, as though only one's own children could do justice to one's songs. i took children at large. for 'ekshathe baNchboi' my good friend sm. uma kunDu gathered children from the apartment complex she resides in, and my sister-in-law, sm. meera chatterjee, brought children from the school where she teaches. we rehearsed for days at uma's place and at my parental house with two groups.
the work they delivered is phenomenal. from a pathological hatred for me, the bengali bhoddorlok-class ignored their great work. i had already seen how meanly the bong (and i am not sorry for saying 'bong') media and quite a few 'artists' and authors had received 'ChoTo-boRo mile'. when 'ekshathe baNchboi' came out there was dead silence. a silent negation of whatever this man did. the silent jihad was spearheaded by the ubiquitous progressive parties and the media. not a single mention was made anywhere. and that was the moment i realized that i had made a grave mistake by becoming a professional musician in the cesspool called 'bengal' (bangladesh included). the only bright spot was the supreme involvement in and love for the work my wonderful young colleagues had brought forth, the great challenge they met by singing to the complex arrangements i had made, and the way each group claimed that the other group was better! after they listened to the album, each group told me independently that they found that the other group was better. 'ekshathe baNchboi', for me, is a major work, radically ignored by the bengali people, and it finally taught me to look for a way out of the cesspool called 'bengali music scene' and the 'bengali culture scene.' today, i am much more in control of my emotions and my place on the margin of this society. i avoid people who are with the industry and who claim to make music, and i avoid all culture-wallahs. but once in a while, a friend, whose request i cannot ignore, asks me to give a seminar lecture or may be perform a little somewhere, and i try to meet their demands. may be for the first time in my life, i feel rejuvanated by a forum of music-loving young people, and i feel an urge to communicate with you folks, as long as things don't personal. i find it interesting and a vindication of the great bong aptitude that in public too many people are more keen to discuss how many times i married and how many 'lovers' i have than to listen to my work or read what i write or to wonder how a fellow-citizen could do do much work in such a short period, and how much time he must have spent to master his craft, and how much time and effort he must be spending even today on his craft, his voice, his instrumental expertise, his creations. ha ha! it's all a huge joke. bertrand russell once wondered, 'what good is the tapeworm?' what utility does it have in nature other than a scatological (he didn't say this of course) enterprise? the great bengali thinker/author humayun azad commented once:'ajkal bangalir atMar kotha bhable keno jani na khali gonoshouchgarare kotha mone hoy.' he was mortally wounded by the BD muslim fundamentalists who, like all fundamentalists of all ideological hues, are also like tapeworms who thrive on excreta. friends, i hope i didn't hurt you. no malice intended. it's just a songsmith-and-wordsmith's ramblings shared with his folks. 'e-jodi amar desh na-hoy to kar desh bolo.' love to you all.

Sujoneshu Sumanda,
Tomar kachh theke ei o....s....a....d....h....a....r.....o.....n proti-lekha peye ami to aalhade 8khana ! , raage-songraage, srijon'e sei chena Suman jholse uthchhe bar bar, tomake obhibadon emon bhetor-chhnoya kathagulor jonyo.
Yes, U kabir Suman took the frigid Bengali song to orgasm in post Salil Chowdury era. It's u & only u had teared the Chastety of the bengali song-lyric that had been living an unsatisfied teen ! Hey Sumanda, pity the 'bong', let those cripples go 2 the hell, those will be washed away if u spit honestly. They don't, but Time knows U r the father of the modern bengali songs had previously been experiencing constipation of music & lyric. Only U can say 2 each new & good bengali song emberks demanding in ur unparallel lyric 'jotobar tumi janoni hoyechho, tatobar ami pita'.
Stay well sumanda 2 let us live in tune worth listening..
Gooooooooooood wishes...
Goutam
