we have had this debate since long...what is jeebanmukhi gaan...perhaps the label jeebanmukhi is not apt...call it something else...but we need to call this genre something...how to distinguish compositions of suman, anjan, nachiketa from those of others...if those were adhinik, call these uttor-adhunik (though postmodern has other connotations)..or something...but not adhunik..not modern song..

as for classification...look at geetabeetan...if rabindranath had not himself classified...how could have one distinguished between prem and prakiti...aamaar priyar chhaya...will u call it barshar gaan or premer gaan..aami chai saontal taar bhaashai boluk...love song or political anthem??

i feel that labels/definitions/categorisations are for convenience, and nothing beyond... we need labels to organise our thoughts, and nothing beyond..
