Dada Paye Pari Re, FOLK Song Theke Tune Ene De

Recently I was forced to watch “Chak De” (Sponsored by my Baudimoni)

First half finished & I just snatched the pop-corn pack from my cousin, heard the famous “Mumbaiyaa Sitti [who cares mulptiplex ]”. Why?? Coz Madhuri Dixit was on the screen with the promo of her upcoming, “Aaja Nachle”

But amongst all those halla-bolla, one thing turned my brain to be poised. The background score of the promo. My brain said to myself I hv listened that tune, I hv listen that tune. The tune?? The famous Bengali folk-song “Dada Paye Pari Re, Mela Theke Bou Ene De” made popular by Anshuman Roy.

Listen the promo tune: [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]

Though lifting tune is a tradition (background & mainstream song), each & every great bollywood musician lifted/copied/riff-off/(they say inspired).

And folk songs have been proved as the biggest resource for the bollywood music composers coz there is a rare chance to be sued.

There are hundreds of examples. My favorite LIFTED songs from folk arena are:

Dil Tadap Tadap Ke (Madhumati/ Salil Chowdhury)” is lifted from a Polish folk-song, to listen click: [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]

Nimbura Nimbura (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam/ Ismail Darbar)” is ditto copied (even the lyrics) from a Rajasthani folk-song, to listen click: [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]

And there are hundreds more examples. There is a nice article by Shubha Mudgal in this issue, you can read it: [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]

But most interesting song lifting scene was back in 1966. Here it goes:

Beatles` "Tomorrow Never Knows" tune resembles bits of the Kinks' "See My Friends," released a year earlier. And the Kinks' Ray Davies admits to having been influenced in that instance by an Indian fishermen's chant (A Marathi Folk-Song) during a band tour stop in Bombay. So the Kinks sue the Beatles, and a group of Indian fishermen in turn sue the Kinks, and everyone who is sued in turn files a countersuit.

Now there is a quizzing for you all. Can you tell me, from which famous Bengali folk-song, “De De Pyaar De (Saarabi/ Bappi Da)” is lifted??

Yeah yeah, wish your every moments of this Durga Puja gets so bright that you all need SUNGLASSES!!!!!

Roy, once again...another brilliant thread from you ...

and on your quiz ...the original one is "Allah megh de" by Abbasuddin. and that also reminds me about "Rama Megh De" from the movie "Guide" and "Chhod De Patang" from movie "Nagin" ( by Hemanta Mukhopadhya) and also "Nahin Lagta Yeh Dil Tere Bina, Nahin Lagta" in Jail Yatra ( by R.D )

and very similar to a song in the movie "Palkon ki chhaon mein" ,I cant remember the words ,can you please put some more lights on this ...

Hey, congrats for the right answer :-)

Yeah "Rama Megh De " is very much inspired. But I didn't listen to the songs of "Jail Yatra," looking for it :-)

I'm not sure abt "Palkon ki chhaon mein" or "Chhod De Patang / Nagin" is lifted or not. But the song "Ek Pardesi Mera" from "Nagin" is horribly copied in a Bengali Film Song "Title Song / Beder Meye Jyotshna [One of those horrible films I hv seen more than 10 mins]"

And another one, Bappi Da's "Jahan Char Yaar / Saraabi" is also lifted from a hugely famous Bengali Folk Song "Bondhu Tin Din Tor Barit Gelam"

Cheers...
