Ever wanted to know who is earning more money than you from the grave? Forbes did, or at least they had enough spare time to find the answer to that question. So they've compiled a list of the the 13 top earning dead celebrities over the past year.

Why 13? Because the Forbes writers want to cast an evil aura over the celebrities' graves, obviously. Or maybe the criteria for making it to the list was the celebrity had to make at least $7 million from their estate between October of 2005 and October of 2006. Elvis Presley ceded his crown to Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain. This was Cobain's first time on the list in its six years of publication. Presley has ruled the roost since its inception.

But the most interesting part is among those 13 celebrities 7 members are from Music Industry & they alone grossed $148 million among their collective $ 247 million!!

Here's the full rundown of the musicians in the Forbes top-earning dead celebrity list:

Kurt Cobain (Rank: 1) - Died in 1994 - Earnings: $ 50 million. Sometimes suicide is more beneficial than life insurance ... nah!! The one who was once forced out from his home as his mother said, "Either find a job or leave home'" has made more money in a year being dead than anybody can ever see in his life. How does that make you feel?!

Elvis Presley (Rank: 2) - Died in 1977 - Earnings: $42 million. In his first audition he was turned down by the manager of Grand Ole Opry saying, "Son you ought to go back and drive your truck again!"

John Lennon (Rank: 4) - Died in 1980 - Earnings: $24 million. Imagine if he didn't call himself a dreamer!!

Ray Charles (Rank: 8) - Died in 2004 - Earnings: $10 million. How would he count $10 million?!?!

Johnny Cash (Rank: 10) - Died in 2003 - Earnings: $8 million. Dead cowboy in his early age who used to sell electrical appliances door to door!!

George Harrison (Rank: 12) - Died in 2001 - Earnings: $7 million. The second-richest dead Beatles.

Bob Marley (Rank: 13) - Died in 1981 - Earnings: $7 million. Maybe that's why his woman says, "No Marley Still No Cry!!"

Maybe that's why Tom Parker [Presley's manager] once said death was a "good career move" for his client.

Here in India?!?!? In every 2 hours, minimum one Kishore Kumar’s song is playing in any FM station. Still today, he topped in the list of catalogue selling. But last year, Leena Chandavarkar gave his house in lease to a spa as she couldn’t maintain that house and shifted to suburban apartment.

Shame on to India’s music Industry, shame on!!

Now a days publishers ( may be music or software ) often refer to prohibited copying as "piracy." In this way, they imply that illegal copying is ethically equivalent to attacking ships on the high seas, kidnapping and murdering the people on them.

Many people doesnot believe that illegal copying is just like kidnapping and murder and they prefer not to use the word "piracy" to describe it but neutral terms such as "prohibited copying" or "unauthorized copying" .

I personaly prefer to use a positive term such as "sharing information with your neighbor."

Though i didnt agree with Roy for the term "piracy" I do realize that somehow making available of any artist's creation on net surely effects the overall scenario of revenue generation of that artist . If we can buy hte cd or the cassette we should do that as the creator do deserve it . And after all they need to run their family too .

and @Adaap_Prithibi -- please donot blame Roy , ashe is using a pirated version of m$ application unless you have some definite prove . I myself dont use m$ windows and other related stufff since the year 2000.

I would like to know how many *licensed * software do you have with your box ??? Do you know what is FREE SOFTWARE and what is FREEWARE and also Making music, not only gives any artist a great feeling of creatng something , also it genrates money when it gets out as an album and when you upload a music of kabir suman over net and allows other to download it for nothing ( without kabir suman's permission )..you really have a role in stealing revenue which is supposed to be available for kabir Suman . And i really donot bother about any philosphy/motto behind that . You just cant behave like a owner of any such things which you dont own really.
