REVOLUTION will be LIVE

I rarely watch television coz I don't have that time. I prefer to sleep than watching movie or TV. But sometimes I pick the remote & see the recent happening (otherwise people'll say I'm uncivilized) though I roam only Vh1 - MTV.

But when yesterday I had a sudden trip to television set & what I got? Ash-Abhi & their D-Day ... who got invited or who don't ... what's the ladoo made off with... who will design the mehendi...etc. etc.

One Channel went further showing the coundown of their wedding ... strange. they also tagged it, "The Wedding of Century." Arrey 21st century just been started, still 93 yrs to go. So let it to finish first then decide. Then of course, "If you wanna wish Ash-Abhi, SMS we’ll send them to Ash-Abhy (how easy to make us fool, naaaah!!)"

Look, I'm not against of Bachchans. But it seems the 24×7 news channel are not presenting the news but selling the news. Whereas it's time for the media to show greater maturity in news selection and coverage. The media does have a freedom of expression, but it comes with responsibility. In the race for TRPs and viewership, let's not forget our special, social responsibility. If I know that particular news will incite communal passions, it's my responsibility to withhold it, in the larger interest of society.

Yes yes, Ash-Abhi's wedding is news and must be covered. But do we need to get all those over and over again, throughout the day? Ditto for Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty. It's simply perverse. There are so many things happening around the world? Will news channels show it all? How many news channels have covered the "Khairlanji" issue where a Dalit woman & her daughter paraded naked, raped and killed? Or, the farmer's suicides in Vidharba extensively? It all boils down to what reality you are willing to show.

Wish we would have somebody like Gill Scott Heron in Bolywood who has the guts to sing .....

You will not be able to stay home, brother.
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and drop out.
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and skip,
Skip out for beer during commercials,
Because the revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be brought to you by Xerox
In 4 parts without commercial interruption.
The revolution will not show you pictures of Nixon
Blowing a bugle and leading a charge by John
Mitchell, General Abrams and Spiro Agnew to eat
Hog maws confiscated from a Harlem sanctuary.

The revolution will not be televised.

There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
Brothers in the instant replay.
There will be no pictures of young being
Run out of Harlem on a rail with a brand new process.
There will be no slow motion or still life of Roy
Wilkens strolling through Watts in a red, black and
Green liberation jumpsuit that he had been saving
For just the right occasion.

The revolution will not be televised.

There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock
News and no pictures of hairy armed women
Liberationists and Jackie Onassis blowing her nose.
The theme song will not be written by Jim Webb,
Francis Scott Key, nor sung by Glen Campbell, Tom
Jones, Johnny Cash, Englebert Humperdink, or the Rare Earth.

The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be right back after a message
About a white tornado, white lightning, or white people.
You will not have to worry about a germ on your
Bedroom, a tiger in your tank, or the giant in your toilet bowl.

The revolution will not go better with Coke.
The revolution will not fight the germs that cause bad breath.
The revolution WILL put you in the driver's seat.
The revolution will not be televised, WILL not be televised,
WILL NOT BE TELEVISED.
The revolution will be no re-run brothers;
The revolution will be LIVE.

Fantastic

Simply FANTASTIC Simply !

You have echoed my own frustration of the media very accurately. I remember the shock I felt on a visit to Purulia to study the famine situation there. On the train I bought a newspaper ( ABP) which had a special edition ( a supplement) for Purulia. The reports there were for Purulia people. The question that arose in my mind was why does a single report from these supplements never find a way into the kolkata edition.

Perhaps the media helps to maintain the comfort level and accumulation of existential flab for the CORPORATE citizens and leaders.

LONG LIVE DEMOCRACY!

In a democracy we deserve what we get, Simply.

## Alhadi ..
Hey, thank you!

You know, still ABP is ok but Mumbai media is heck. Here they publish what poeple know already & page 3 & page 3.

"Democracy & deserveness??"
You know we live in "The Culture Of Fear." Fear of violence. Fear of disease. Fear of war. Fear of the weather. Fear of our neighbors. Fear of the unknown. Television news drives a lot of this fear.

If It Bleeds, It Leads. This is how television news programs are designed. The whole idea is to capture the audience with shocking and provocative news stories and keep them watching. Keep them watching right through the commercials. Keep them watching onto more news. Television news shows are programs with a specific goal in mind: Make money for the TV network.
That's all!!!

information blues

The journalists are equally frustrated with such a ridiculous system. They are often forced to deliver only those portions which would perhaps reinforce the ‘feel good’ delusion. I guess democracy is terminally wounded because the media is not echoing the sender; neither is it reaching the receiver.

misery of the indian media

i read this article and felt like sharing it other forum members.............

Not surprising in times when foreigners are more concerned about the good health of India and Indians are so self centered that they can hardly care to ensure that they are not shooting their own feet...

please pass it on.... this is indeed a shame to our INDIAN MEDIA.. and i heartfully appreciate the BBC channel..................... please read on

A MUST READ.......

Dear Editors of HT, TOI, IndianExpress and TheHindu, I got the mail below from a friend of mine and following the unwritten code of conduct, I am forwarding it to my friends but all efforts of people who have been forwarding this mail would go waste if this mail doesn't reach YOU......

Something to think about..!!

Shame on Indian Media??? Really what a shame...

By the time u guys read this news, the body of Major Manish Pitambare, who was shot dead at Anantnag, would have been cremated with full military honors.

On Tuesday, this news swept across all the news channels 'Sanjay Dutt relieved by court'. 'Sirf Munna not a bhai' '13 saal ka vanvaas khatam' 'although found guilty for possession of armory, Sanjay can breath sigh of relief as all the TADA charges against him are withdrawn' Then many personalities like Salman Khan said 'He is a good person. We knew he will come out clean'. Mr Big B said "Dutt's family and our family have relations for years he's a good kid. He is like elder brother to Abhishek". His sister Priya Dutt said "we can sleep well tonight. It's a great relief"

In other news, Parliament was mad at Indian team for performing bad; Greg Chappell said something; Shah Rukh Khan replaces Amitabh in KBC and other such stuff. But most of the emphasis was given on Sanjay Dutt's "phoenix like" comeback from the ashes of terrorist charges. Surfing through the channels, one news on BBC startled me. It read "Hisbul Mujahidin's most wanted terrorist 'Sohel Faisal' killed in Anantnag , India . Indian Major leading the operation lost his life in the process. Four others are injured.

It was past midnight , I started visiting the stupid Indian channels, but Sanjay Dutt was still ruling. They were telling how Sanjay pleaded to the court saying 'I'm the sole bread earner for my family', 'I have a daughter who is studying in US' and so on. Then they showed how Sanjay was not wearing his lucky blue shirt while he was hearing the verdict and also how he went to every temple and prayed for the last few months. A suspect in Mumbai bomb blasts, convicted under armory act...was being transformed into a hero.

Sure Sanjay Dutt has a daughter; Sure he did not do any terrorist activity. Possessing an AK47 is considered too elementary in terrorist community and also one who possesses an AK47 has a right to possess a pistol so that again is not such a big crime; Sure Sanjay Dutt went to all the temples;
Sure he did a lot of Gandhigiri but then........ ...

Major Manish H Pitambare got the information from his sources about the terrorists' whereabouts. Wasting no time he attacked the camp, killed Hisbul Mujahidin's supremo and in the process lost his life to the bullets fired from an AK47. Just like Sunjay Dutt he is survived by a wife and daughter who's only 18 months old.

Major Manish never said 'I have a daughter' before he took the decision to attack the terrorists in the darkest of nights. He never thought about having a family and he being the bread earner. No news channel covered this since they were too busy hyping a former drug addict, a suspect who's linked to bomb blasts which killed hundreds. Their aim was to show how he defied the TADA charges and they were so successful that his conviction in possession of armory had no meaning. They also concluded that his parents in heaven must be happy and proud of him.

Parents of Major Manish are still living and they have to live rest of their lives without their beloved son. His daughter won't ever see her daddy again.

So guys, please forward this message around so that the media knows which news to give importance, as it is a shame for us since this Army Major's death news was given by a foreign TV channel!!! Where they know worth of Patriotism.
