er karon ki...? tomakey chai jokhon release hoyechhilo.. tokhon it was the first in its kind of music ..naki..onno kono karon achhey..

I feel proud as a humble Kabir buff that his lyrics have been successful in transcending the language barrier and reaching out to you. In this context, can recommend his only English album Reaching Out..it has a disarming simplicity (the whole album is on acoustic guitar) and the lyrics are..as usual..mindblowing!!
Coming back to Tomake Chai, it is indeed nothing short of a revolution in the history of Bengali Contemporary Music. And like all revolutions, its success depended on the oppressive preconditions. Oppressive, because after Salil Chowdhury's creative peak (actually, u can make that Tagore), there was a vaccum in terms of alternate genres of Bengali Music. The lyrics were intellectually bakrupt depending on a combination of flowers-moonlight-u-me for the quintessential Bhadrolok, and the occasional raunchy and inane Puja number for the front benchers. Pulak Banerjee and Shapan Chakravarty being the best represetatives in the respective departments. Musically, though the scenario was much, much better, still it started sounding jaded in the Eighties, where all around there was a general downswing in quality. This was the time, when the genesis of a revolution was found in the twin cassettes of Onyo Kawtha Onyo Gaan, (Kabir Suman's first cassette)...and then Tomake Chai burst upon the scene.

The rest, as they say, is history.
