Concert In Kolkata- Suman & Pete

Dear Friends,

In 1996 Pete Seeger came in Kolkata and then he performed two concerts jointly with Kabir Suman. Any friends were you present those concerts? Please try to remember your feelings of two great legends in single platform and share with us? Anyway, do you have any bootleg records of those concerts? If yes, please inform us and upload as early as possible.

i missed that.. i was in school and as i can remember as much as i can that either i was out of town or didnt get the entry pass..

But it was a really bad miss ...

i had missed that concert too, though i had tried my best to get passes...the statesman had published a review of that concert, in fact, if i dont remember wrongly, suman da had also written an article in the statesman on pete seeger just before the concert. may be we can locate that article in the statesman archives..

i agree that a recording of the concert will be a great treasure..

but i do remember vividly suman da's performance in g d birla sabhaghar (alongwith nachiketa) where he performed his "song for pete" perhaps for the first time...hmv had released a recording of this concert..

Songe nati guitar niye. Gaan...orokom michu jibone suniti.. ekta ganer theme ta bolchen ...sobai ki bhabe nachte hobe bole dichhen ...tar por gaichen. Sumon er por elo stage. sobug ronger 12 string guitar ta or barite agei dekhechilam.. oi ta Pete Sumon ke upohar diyechilen. Sumon prothom gaanta gaite giye bollo " Pete er samne gaan gaichi, jeans er tolai Hatur kamunita apnara dur theke bujte parchen na !..". Pete ageo ekbar kolkatai esechilen. sei smriti theke ekta bharotio gaan gailen "raghupati raghabo raja ram". Engine driver er gaan ta mone pore.
